Homes for Londoners: top ten facts.

1. Over £3bn investment in new affordable homes.

Mayor Sadiq Khan has secured a record £3.15bn from the government for affordable housing in London.

2. That money will help build thousands of new affordable homes.

In five years’ time, we’ll have started building at least 90,000 new affordable homes.

3. Working together to fix London’s housing crisis.

We’re working closely with local councils, housing associations, developers and others to build the homes Londoners need.

4. A strengthened team at City Hall to lead this work.

The Mayor will strengthen his housing, planning and development teams to make sure this work happens.

5. Genuinely affordable homes to buy.

Our London Shared Ownership homes will help Londoners who want to buy but can’t afford to on the open market.

6. Genuinely affordable homes to rent.

Two new ways to make renting more affordable for Londoners: London Affordable Rent, for people on low incomes; and London Living Rent, to help those on average incomes save a deposit to buy their first home.

7. Half of new homes for Londoners to be genuinely affordable.

That’s the Mayor’s long-term aim. It will take time, but as a key first step, he’s pushing for more affordable homes in developers’ schemes across London.

8. Making better use of surplus public land.

The Mayor is working with Transport for London and other public sector landowners to get more affordable homes built on empty land.

9. More help for rough-sleepers.

He’s set up a new task force focused on preventing rough-sleeping and secured funding to help people leaving hostels and refuges.

10. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Fixing London’s housing crisis won’t happen overnight, but working together we can fix it.
