At 4D Planning, we specialise in transforming commercial spaces to meet the evolving needs of communities. One of our recent projects in Haringey involved securing planning permission for the change of use of a shop into a medical centre in Muswell Hill, as well as obtaining advertisement consent for the shop signage and approval for alterations to the shop front.
This project entailed converting an existing retail space into a medical centre to house a range of healthcare services for local residents. With the demand for healthcare increasing in Haringey, this change of use allowed for the repurposing of a commercial premises on the high street to provide essential medical services, such as consultations and treatments. The development also included new signage and alterations to the shop front, ensuring the building complied with local aesthetic guidelines while maintaining accessibility and functionality for both medical practitioners and patients.
Securing planning approval for a change of use in a busy, vibrant area like Haringey is no simple task. Planning policies often require detailed assessments, and the conversion from a retail use (Use Class E) to a medical centre typically involves overcoming concerns of over concentration of use classes, loss of use classes and other local concerns which could harm the vitality and viabiity of the high street and local area.
Our team worked closely with the local council to navigate these complex requirements, ensuring that the medical centre would integrate well into Haringey’s long-term development goals. We provided evidence to demonstrate that the project would not negatively impact the surrounding area and would, in fact, serve the community by providing much-needed healthcare services.
In addition to the change of use, the application also included advertisement consent for a new shop front signage, which needed to complement the surrounding street scene and conservation area. Our Team carefully considered design proposal focused on the aesthetics of the signage, ensuring compliance with Haringey’s planning policies while also ensuring the client's requirements were met.
Did you know that in Haringey, approximately 30% of all planning applications involve a change of use, particularly in high-demand sectors such as healthcare and retail conversion? This reflects the growing need to adapt existing buildings to meet the needs of the community.
With over 15 years of experience in managing planning applications, 4D Planning has helped many clients navigate the complexities of local planning policies and planning guidance. Our extensive knowledge of Haringey’s planning environment ensures that we can efficiently handle a range of applications, from change of use, advertisement consent and a wide range of other application types for both commercial and residential delivering results that benefit both property owners and the local community.
